Monterey Surveying Bee Rock To Widen Entry And Create Parking

Monterey is in the planning stages to create more parking spaces at Bee Rock overlook.

Mayor JJ Reels said the goal is to widen the gravel entryway to the sandstone flattop that would be used for some 20 parking spaces.

“Tried for a while to get the survey company to come back out, and they’ve been so busy,” Reels said. “But, they’re going to try to make it this week or next week. Hopefully once we get that flagged, we’ll know how we can widen that and how to proceed with it.”

Reels said the gravel road would be two lanes of traffic for easy access to the parking area. Reels said Monterey gaining permanent access to the right-of-way through the Garden Inn easement legal battle allows the widening.

“Basically, a two-lane road in there,” Reels said. “There’s enough room to do that, so that we can use the flat, open area for a parking lot on our property. It’s our property and we have the right-of-way, so we’re going to use it.”
