Monterey’s consulting engineer is still trying to determine how to repair a leak at Meadow Creek Lake Dam.
Nathaniel Green said he does know that it’s not the first time the dam has leaked.
“The dam, whenever it was initially installed, there was some seepage that was going on,” Green said. “I believe it was somewhere around 1992, or at least it was a 1992 contract for us to provide some assistance to you guys in having a long term repair, which was coating the outer side of it with some type of urethane.”
Inspectors located the leak about four feet from the base of the dam. Green said he’s waiting to receive that inspection report before making a recommendation to the board of mayor and aldermen.
“I’m going to take all that, along with all the historic information that we have, and try to come up with a plan of action for you next month,” Green said. “I want to talk to the people at the state who are actually over that (Safe Dams) Program and see if the urethane is something that you can still do. I think at that time it was $60,000 and it’s lasted right at 28-years. Maybe that’s the direction we want to go in, or maybe there’s something better.”
Mayor Bill Wiggins said the inspection report for Meadow Creek Lake Dam did not indicate any danger to the public, but noted that the leak needed to be fixed.
