Monterey Purchases Needed Emergency Vehicles

The town of Monterey has purchased three used emergency vehicles to help out the department’s day-to-day operations.

Monterey Mayor Alex Garcia said the town is purchasing three vehicles from Fulton County, GA. Garcia said the town purchased the vehicles together for around $30,000. Garcia said one of the vehicles is a mobile command center that will allow the police department to work on the move.

“With all the festivals we are having you know, the police will have a unit that they can set up in,” Garcia said. “It’s got an onboard generator and radios. If we have another event like the ice storm that vehicle would come in real handy with an onboard generator and we can set up wifi in there and we can kind of do all the commands out of that one vehicle.”

Garcia said the vehicles are in great shape and also come with maintenance records. Garcia said Monterey needed to obtain some updated emergency vehicles as a portion of the town’s emergency vehicles are outdated.

“Some of our emergency vehicles are older,” Garcia said. “They got some higher mileage on them and you know, I guess you could say they are just getting older, and we had the opportunity to buy some surplus vehicles at an excellent rate so I think we are going to take advantage of that.”

Garcia said emergency vehicles are expensive. Garcia said it was a good deal as the vehicles will come fully equipped with up-to-date equipment.

“We don’t have to put lights on them,” Garcia said. “They already have the emergency lights. The Tahoe has a box in the back that is worth about $3,000 to hold equipment. They are ready to go, all we got to do is sticker them and they are on the road.”

Garcia said the two vehicles besides the command center are a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Ford Explorer. Garcia said those two vehicles may be used for either the fire department or the police department.
