The town of Monterey has pledged $30,000 to go towards a concert coming this fall.
The Board of Aldermen approved the expenditure in a special called meeting Thursday night. Cultural Administrator Rafferty Cleary said the event is being organized by Magna 1 Lubricant Owner Chris Landers.
‘We’re extremely excited about it,” Cleary said. “I am glad the city managed the money fiscally responsibly where we are in a position to do this, but now, we need to go out and nail down a date and confirm some things.”
Mayor JJ Reels said the potential headliner is not being named at this time, but the country musician is a known star. Reels said the event will likely be the biggest to happen in Monterey.
The money pledged comes from the town’s general fund. Reels said tax revenue came in above budget allowing the expenditure. Reels said the goal is to make the concert an annual event in Monterey.
