Monterey Planning Commission Has 3 New Members

The Monterey Planning Commission has three new members after Mayor JJ Reels decided to replace two of them with the other resigning.

Jeff Hicks resigned for personal reasons and will be replaced by local business owner John Phillips. Shannon McGee and Jim Wolfgram will replace Morris Stamps and Charles “Pokey” Looper. Reels said he wanted different members that brought new ideas to the table.

“I just want to replace you know for whatever reason. Not because they have done a bad job,” Reels said. “I think we need to go in a new direction with younger minds and some good ideas and thoughts about how we should do things and go with things.”

Reels said he contacted Putnam County Planning Director Kevin Rush before making the move. Reels said the Monterey mayor position has the authority to appoint and remove planning commission members as needed.

Brian Eads will remain as the chairman for the city.
