Monterey PD Welcomes New K-9

The Monterey Police Department welcomes K-9 Scout as the newest member of the team.

Scout is a rescued three-year-old Belgian Malinois who will be handled by Officer Jeremy Beard. Police Chief Bill Randolph said the K-9 passed his training this week and is ready to serve.

“It is many many hours he has spent with other K-9 units from Putnam County, Cookeville City, from Cumberland County,” Randolph said. “Then, he spent a week in Paris, Tennessee last week to get certified.”

Randolph said K-9 Scout will help with tracking, narcotics detection and patrol work. He replaces K-9 Fanta who retired last year. Both Scout and Fanta are Belgian Malinoises

“It’s the breed of dog that we were looking for after having Fanta, and she was a good dog,” Randolph said. “They are more agile. They are more loyal to their handler, and that is the type of dog Officer Beard preferred to work with.”
