The Monterey Police Department is expecting a smooth weekend as thousands are expected for the Freedom Fest concerts Friday and Saturday.
Police Chief Bill Randolph said the venue sits about five miles away from downtown.
“We’ve had plenty of notice,” Randolph said. “We knew this was going to take place, so we have some extra vehicles going to be out and some extra signs up. Luckily, none of this is going to be taking place in Monterey other than traveling through, so we don’t expect a whole lot other than a little more traffic.”
Randolph said patrol vehicles and traffic signs will be focused on Woodcliff Road leading to the venue.
“I don’t see an issue as long people do what their supposed to do and drive how they’re supposed to drive,” Randolph said. “I think the people leaving and coming and going will affect the county area and Overton more than us.”
Randolph said with it being a holiday weekend, he urged people to buckle up and drive sober.
