Enjoy community and fun with Monterey’s first-ever Movie in the Park Summer Series.
Cultural Administrator Rafferty Cleary said the series spans five months with a film showing at Whittaker Park every last Saturday until September.
“We’ll have concessions from some different businesses and civic organizations, of course we’ve got the splash pad and the playground within the park so we’re encouraging to come early and enjoy the splash pad, enjoy the playground, and then show time is going to be around 7:30 for each one of these events,” Cleary said.
Cleary said that idea stems from an event held last year, and its popularity inspired them to extend the event over the whole summer.
“Ever since that event there have been people in my constantly about ‘Can we do another Movie in the Park,’ we had businesses that were wanting to sponsor any type of movie in the park even that we would do in the future,” Cleary said. “Getting the sponsors lined up for this has been simple because of the excitement our trial run had kind of brewed up.”
Cleary said he hopes the Movie in the Park Series attracts people from all over the area to come and join the town of Monterey.
“We look at ourselves–Monterey looks at ourselves–as a place where quality of life is at a high standard,” Cleary said. “This is an opportunity for people to get out, enjoy what we have to offer in this town, and to come together as a community and laugh and have fun.”
The Movie in the Park Series kicks off Saturday, May 29th, with a showing of “Little Rascals.” Admission is free, but Cleary said he recommends bringing some change to purchase concessions from local vendors.
