Monterey Hires Wood As New City Attorney

Monterey hired Brad Wood as the town’s new attorney Monday night.

Earlier this year, the Monterey Board of Alderman voted to terminate the relationship with former City Attorney Will Mullins. Mayor Nathan Walker said after being without a city attorney recently, he talked to several. Walker said Wood was highly recommended.

“I’m glad to be back up here again, I helped you guys out about a month ago on the water sewage place, and I was glad to help you guys with that,” Wood said. “I know Nolan served in this role for a long time, he’s my boss.  I’ve gotten a lot of guidance from him and I think I can serve y’all well.”

The Board of Alderman voted unanimously, 7-0, to confirm Wood in the role. Walker said Wood comes from a very well-respected firm in Cookeville.

“In our first discussions, I explained to Mr. Wood that what I think most board members want is an attorney that is actually for the city,” Walker said. “We want to make sure that you’re representing the city, and the board, without fail or personal feelings.”
