Monterey Finance Committee Pushes New Time Card System Forward

Monterey’s Finance Committee moving forward with a new facial recognition time card system for town employees after its meeting Monday.

Chair Bill Wiggins said the town currently uses a manual system across seven locations for different departments. He said they hope to improve employee accountability using the new system.

“We have people maybe clocking in for someone else,” Wiggins said. “And we’ve just got to tighten a loose end here and make sure we’re dealing with the proper employee when they’re checking in.”

Wiggins said the facial recognition time card system quote came in the neighborhood of $5,000. He said if the full Board of Aldermen approves the purchase at its August meeting, it will likely be fully implemented before the end of the month.

The financial committee also discussed the need to update employee job descriptions. Wiggins said there were several that needed to be clarified and updated after new state requirements since they were last updated.

“For example our city recorder, Ella Dishman,” Wiggins said. “Since her job description was written it’s been mandated that the person who holds that job has to have a certain certification. Fortunately, Ella has that, but in the event that she might leave, that job description would not be in tune with what we would have to have.”
