Monterey FD Searching For Medical Monitor Funding

The Monterey Fire Department is working to find grant funding for a new medical monitor.

Chief Kevin Peters said the department has quotes and financing options available to purchase the equipment that expired this week.

“The monitor that we have to do EKG and blood pressures and pulse oxygen testing is going to be out of certification,” Peters said. “There is no more available updates for this model. We have had it for about 13 years now.”

Peters said according to the city’s grant writer, Cares Act money could help with the $35,000 price tag.

The need for replacement was first mentioned to the finance committee during its January budget meeting. Peters requested that the needed funds be included in the next budget. During the January meeting, Chairman Nathan Walker said this purchase should be added in a future agenda due to the urgency.

“That is something we have to move on pretty quick,” Walker said during the meeting.

Peters said if a new monitor is not purchased, the fire department will be medically limited. Peters said the equipment is mainly used on the department’s first responder unit.
