Monterey Community Rallying Around Family Affected By Tuesday Fire

The Monterey community rallying around the Kennedy family who lost their home and all of their belongings in a fire Tuesday morning.

Terry Kennedy said her family of 10 awoke Tuesday morning to the smell of smoke and soon after fled the house. She said the community came together quickly to help find a way to address their needs.

“And everyone’s just teaming together and my friends back and home and it’s really been amazing it’s not overwhelming in a bad way it’s overwhelming in the best way,” Kennedy said. “It’s us knowing that we have good people that are here for us and we’re not fighting this battle alone.”

Kennedy said they lost everything in the fire, and have no more than the clothes they were wearing and their vehicle. She said anything and everything helps.

Kennedy said mentally, the family is still working through the traumatic events of the morning. In the meantime, she said the family is grateful to have another day and to have one another.

“We are so thankful to have each other because our lives could be so different we could be planning burials right now if my daughter hadn’t woken us up with our oldest boy, our two-year-old would be dead,” Kennedy said. “Her bed is completely burned, it is gone where the room is. That was the most damaged part of the house next to the basement. She wouldn’t be here. With all of us, possibly even us.”
