Monterey City Hall In Need Of New Roof

Monterey will have to spend some money to repair a leaking roof at city hall.

Mayor Bill Wiggins said the Building and Grounds Committee will decide how to move forward with the project when they meet Monday night.

“We have been up in the attack at city hall to take pictures of water damage up there. We have water coming in at three different locations. All of them are in the meeting hall area,” Wiggins said. “Essentially what’s happening is that the roof is showing it’s age. Were going to recommend through the Building and Grounds Committee that we proceed with bidding out a new roof.”

Any decision made by the committee will go to the Monterey Board of Mayor and Aldermen for approval. Wiggins said the goal is to maintain the same roof line.

“There was discussion about putting a truss roof up there, but that would necessitate extending the brick wall upward,” Wiggins said. “That would also eliminate the facade outside and we would have to redo the drainage. We’re going to proceed with the specifications to keep the roof line as it is, but were going to add a new cover.”

The Building and Grounds Committee meets at 5:30 p.m. inside city hall. The Monterey Board of Mayor and Aldermen meet later that evening at 7 p.m.
