The Monterey Board of Aldermen accepting proposals from companies to install new playground equipment at Whitaker Park.
Cultural Administrator Rafferty Cleary said the town wants to replace the existing metal playground that is in need of major repairs.
“The merry-go-round no longer works,” Cleary said. “It’s actually been taking out of operation. See-saw if you’re lucky it might work. Swing sets are broken. We fix it when we can. The jungle gym is not the safest being that old. They’re just old, so they need to be updated.”
Cleary said the town also wants to change the surface from sand to rubber mulch. Some $230,000 has been budgeted for the project through federal COVID money.
Cleary said the current playground was installed back in the 1980’s or 1990’s.
