Monterey Aldermen Create Events And Sports Authority

Monterey Board of Alderman has approved the creation of an events and sports authority.

Alderman Bill Wiggins said the authority would act as a committee overseeing all Monterey-related events including Standing Stone Day, Bee Rock, and the parks and tee-ball fields. He said this has been in discussion for some time, and now is the time to move forward with it.

“The reason I say it’s timely is because we’re entering the winter season, and things are slacking off,” Wiggins said. “And we need to get this machinery ready before warm weather next spring.”

Wiggins said this also comes as part of Chris Landers’ events and the possibility that Monterey could join in coordination with Landers on those in the future.

Wiggins said they can work out the details in the work session, but tentatively are looking at six members. He said that would include three aldermen and three citizens.
