McMinnville Wants To Extend Budget Deadline

The city of McMinnville wants to see the full financial impact of the coronavirus before continuing budget discussions.

McMinnville City Administrator Nolan Ming said the city expected a significant drop in sales taxes and revenues. But so far, the numbers are better than expected. Regardless, the city still wants to wait for the final numbers to create an accurate budget.

“We have not seen the impact more larger urban areas have seen,” Ming said. “We are very thankful. We were looking at numbers of 15 to 20-25 percent decrease in revenue.”

Ming said the city is working closely with state comptrollers to allow extensions as needed. Ming said extensions could last until the end of July. Once the budget does pass, the city wants to conduct quarterly budget reviews in case the coronavirus spikes, again and revenue falls.
