McMinnville Defers Downtown Committee Decision

The McMinnville Board of Alderman Tuesday night deferred the addition of five new seats to the Downtown Revenue Finance Corporation.

McMinnville Mayor Ryle Chastain said the five candidates were recommended by Emily Stefanick, chairman of the Revenue Finance Corporation. Chastain said each candidate could contribute to managing tax deferments. When asked about their qualifications and resumes, Chastain said resumes have not always been required for certain positions.

“They exceedingly difficult to find people to fill those because they volunteer, they’re unpaid,” Chastain said. “With those, there’s actually residency requirements that they live in certain areas so we’ve never really collected resumes.”

Alderman Keri Morton said she has an interest in meeting the candidates before voting, the board agreed. Chastain said this discussion will be deferred to the next meeting.

In other business the board approved a bid for the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development to provide funding for the City’s CDBG Sewer Rehabilitation project, awarding a $839,173.60 contract to Portland Utilities Construction LLC, to carry out the work.

The city’s water fountain will be out of commission during repairs.

The selection of all Tourism Committee members has been approved. The replacement of Marvin Lusk’s seat on the Housing Authority Board has been deferred until the next meeting. The city has adopted the 2020 National Electric Code under the National Fire Protection Association.
