A multi-million dollar project will get underway at the McMinnville Civic Center later this year.
Mayor Ben Newman said the work will include utility upgrades, expansion projects, and making the building ADA compliant.
“The expansion is something that we need,” Newman said. “My biggest thing is that we are getting ADA compliant and allowing folks from all walks of life to come in and use this facility.”
Newman said additional space will be added to the civic center for a new fitness room, indoor tennis court, and auxiliary room for large-scale events.
Sain Construction will be conducting the work for $9.2 million and the city will be going out for bond financing to pay for the project.
Newman hopes to turn the project over to Sain Construction for demolition and prep work within the next 60 days.
“Twenty months from now we should have our civic center, renovated, expanded, ADA compliant, and in much better shape than it was before,” Newman said.
The McMinnville Civic Center was built in the 1970s. Newman said the building is not ADA compliant and has not been substantially touched since it was built.
