Tennessee National Guard officials will begin the design process for the new McMinnville armory in early 2019.
Director of Joint Public Affairs Randy Harris says the process was slightly delayed after final approval was needed from several officials. However, Harris looks forward to the project getting started.
“It’ll be a great improvement. As a former commander of that unit back in the early 1980s, it’s been around a long time,” Harris says. “It’s very appropriate that we go ahead and try to get one into Warren County and take care of our folks in McMinnville.”
Harris says once the design process is complete, officials will select a contractor with crews projected to break ground by October 2020.
The new 35,000 square foot armory will be built on 23 acres along Manchester Highway between McMinnville and Morrison.
The future facility will include all necessary parking spaces for personnel and tactical equipment, and modern vehicle maintenance bays. Soldiers will also be able to conduct home-station training in classrooms and other spaces specially designed to support the latest requirements.
