Marina Rolling Out New Facilities After ’23 Fire

Sunset Marina will be home to several brand-new facilities by the time the spring boating season rolls around.

Marina General Manager Tom Allen said the marina is still in the process of rebuilding after a fire destroyed half of the floating facility in August. He said they are pushing to have everything rebuilt and open to the public by April 1. He said the community has been buzzing in anticipation of the marina’s rebuild and the arrival of boating season.

“We have been so humbled and overwhelmed,” Allen said. “We have had such tremendous support from day one, and we just couldn’t be more thankful and grateful to the public.”

He said the marina was in the process of constructing two new chalets at the time of the fire. He said the chalets will act as larger family lodging for those who want to upgrade from a smaller cabin. He said he is excited for the new lodging to bring more families to the community.

“We’ve been able to see multiple generations vacation here on Dale Hollow Lake,” Allen said. “Families like to know what’s new and like to upgrade from a smaller cabin to a bigger cabin, and maybe from a bigger cabin to a chalet.”

He said he wants to be able to offer an expanded version of the lake experience in 2024. He said the new marina store will have some cosmetic enhancements and changes to the floor plan, but will largely be the same store that families remember from summers past.

“We try to offer a little bit of everything for everybody, and we are just looking so forward to 2024 and a good recreation and boating season,” Allen said.

Allen said the marina also added safety features like a new gas pier to keep fuel dispensers as far from the facility as possible. He said there has been heavy interest in the new chalets and he cannot wait for the community to see the newly-repaired facilities.
