Man Arrested As Suspect In Cumberland Co. Murder

A suspect in a Cumberland County murder was arrested Monday in Georgia.

Thirty-eight-year-old Thomas Mack Arnold, Sr. was charged with first degree murder of 63-year-old Billy Ray Jones. Jones was found dead Sunday at his Christian Road home with a single gunshot wound when the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department arrived to a shooting call.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Department, TBI and 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office revealed Arnold was traveling in a green Mercury to Florida after committing the crime.

After alerting law enforcement in Georgia, an officer matched the car’s description and arrested Arnold during a traffic stop.

Arnold will be extradited back to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office awaiting a court appearance. The victim will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville, Tennessee for autopsy and all evidence will be analyzed by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory.
