Local Sheriff Happy To See State Lawmakers Addressing Delta-8 Issues

Clay County Sheriff Brandon Boone said state law makers pushing for regulations over cannabinoid products will help with a growing problem in the county.

Legislators have introduced a bill to create stricter guidelines over delta-8 and delta-10 products. Boone said the youth of the community regularly use the product.

“We’ve had a problem for some time now with our local convenient stores selling the Delta-8 that is causing harmful problems with the children in our area,” Boone said. “We’ve actually had a few kids that have gone to the emergency room from smoking the Delta-8.”

Boone said the only enforcement the office has are citations for people in possession under the age of 21. Boone said efforts at the state level encourages him that local law enforcement will have more avenues to limit illegal use.

“I’m for it,” Boone said. “I think it is a good idea. The only problem is as soon as the lawmakers pass a law that restricts the access for young children from getting access, they are just going to release another product that is similar. Years ago the same thing happened. It’s just a cat and mouse game with the manufactures of these products.”

Boone said the product is readily available at almost any gas station.
