Local Author Frances Albury On Her Book, “Pink Sand Footprints At Harbor Island”

Local author Frances Albury has published her first novel, titled “Pink Sand Footprints at Harbor Island: A life lived one footstep at a time.”

Albury said that she had thought about writing a book since she was about 14. She said that it was the pandemic that finally allowed her the time and space to do so.

“I just felt compelled to use all of my pictures that we had through our time living in the Bahamas to formulate a book and connect all of the experiences we had living the island life,” Albury said.

Over the span of about a year-and-a-half, Albury said she put together some 200 pictures about her experience, including recipes. Albury said that the book is about her time growing up in the Bahamas and the impact of the Bahamian-American connection.

“What goes on in the United States goes on in the Bahamas,” Albury said. “In other words, that’s why so many people look to America for examples for a lifestyle, and we find that we are so interconnected, more so than I think people realize.”

Albury said that one of the hardest parts of the process was formatting. She said that she wanted to get every picture into the book to ensure the continuity of her story. Albury said that when it comes to other wants to share stories, her best advice would be to never give up on your own.

“Never think that ‘Oh my story doesn’t matter,'” Albury said. “I think everybody’s stories matter. And until you start to put it down on paper, you’re never going to realize how important that is or how it’s going to be important to someone else and you have no idea why or how it will affect somebody else’s life. You have to write down the details, your feelings, to paint hte picture of where you were and what was going on so that you can touch somebody else’s life.”
