Local All-Star Cheer Team Takes Home Title From Global Competition

Local competitive cheer team Empire Elite Athletics took home first place in its division at the annual global competition in Orlando.

Gym Owner and Coach Alyssa Carver said this is the program’s first competition season and only had four months to train rather than the typical 10 months. She said the athletes spent hours in the gym training and working their routines.

“As a coach that doesn’t always happen,” Carver said. “You can always do your own job and give them a good routine. But not always do the athletes pull together and really decide as a family that they’re going to go out there and hit a routine to perfection.”

Carver said in total, seven teams from the gym received bids to compete. She said that means those teams had won other competitions and were invited to attend the global competition.

Carver said the team is done for the season and will take a week off before hitting the gym again next week. She said they will continue to work hard leading up to tryouts to recruit new members and prepare for the next competition season in November.

“We’re hoping to just continue to grow and recruit and hope that our successes have spoken to everybody and we get new faces,” Carver said. “And we’ll just keep pushing on. Our competition season starts in November, and we’ll hopefully get to go to The One again.”
