Baseball fans in Hogeye Country got the chance to receive an autograph and take a picture with 2024 Class 3A Mr. Baseball winner Carson Parrott.
The recent graduate capped off his high school career with a senior season that saw him go 7-0 as a pitcher and bat .392 at the plate. As he enters the next chapter of his life, Parrot said he is appreciative of his community’s support.
“I mean, it means a lot,” Parrot said. “I grew up here. I played baseball over there at the ballpark just like all those other little kids do that hopefully, you know, some will show up and want to get something signed today or it’s gonna be pretty awkward sitting here. But, it’s pretty cool. I’m never probably going to have another opportunity like this in my life, so I’m just going to try and enjoy it.”
Parrott’s performance on the diamond earned him a spot on Tennessee Tech’s roster next season. A dream come true, Parrott said, something he could not have imagined after a rough freshman season.
“As a freshman? I did not think so, no,” Parrott said. “Because I was not very good as a freshman believe it or not, I was not. I was not nowhere near close to what I was last year or the two years before that even.”
After a disappointing freshman season that saw Livingston Academy go 10-12, the Wildcats found their groove going 59-27 over the next three seasons. The thing he’ll remember most about his time at Livingston Academy? Parrott said winning.
“We won a lot of games the last two years,” Parrott said. “Last year we had that little run where we went to regionals or… I don’t even know how far we got to be honest. The feeling of winning as a whole team is something you won’t forget.”
As summer workouts and training for collegiate baseball starts, Parrott said his goals are to become starting pitcher in the years to come and more importantly to him, be a good teammate.
“I hope that I can contribute to them for pitching,” Parrott said. “Then another good teammate that they can add. If any of the players are having a bad day or whatever, in a little but of a slump or whatever, they can talk to me and I can help them get out of it. Looking to be a good teammate and hopefully be a starting pitcher there too.”
