Livingston Submits Grant To Construct New Dog Park

Livingston in the running for a $25,000 grant that would be used to construct a new dog park.

Downtown Revitalization Chairman Ray Evans said the proposed site would be adjacent to Central Park on a city-owned 1-acre lot.

“We’ve made our application, and we are now in what is called a community involvement phase that will go through the end of this month,” Evans said.

Evans said the grant administering party, the Boyd Foundation, will consider recipients based on online feedback. Evans said indications can come in many different ways such as social media posts or website submissions.

“We’ve had an amazing response,” Evans said. “This park is sort of just diagonally across the intersection from Central Park. I can see families coming with their dogs and their kids and doing a multi-purpose visit in town.”

Evans said 18 recipients are expected to be named next month. Evans said a $100,000 grant is also usually given out each year for the community with the highest feedback. Cookeville received the grand prize in 2019.

“$25,000 will go a long way, but it won’t complete the construction for sure,” Evans said. “The intention is that this park would be constructed in a similar matter as Central Park. We were fortunate to have city forces with good talents to build the fencing and columns and those sort of things.”

The website to support the grant application is www.dogparkdash.com.
