The City of Livingston’s light upgrade project has saved the city some $21,400 since December 2019.
The city worked with UCEMC to convert most of its street lights to LED lights. UCEMC Manager Ben Winningham said he compared the period December-April.
“Now, we can’t just simply divide that amongst the 12 months and get an exact figure because obviously during the summer, nights are shorter and during the wintertime, nights are longer,” Winningham said.
Winningham said the light project has been completed and his office has received few complaints from citizens.
Alderman Kelly Coleman said the city should consider a study of how much savings might be achieved by switching lights at city ball parks and sports facilities to LED. Mayor Curtis Hayes said he would investigate that. Hayes also said he has asked UCEMC to look at better lighting along the Highway 111 bridge.
Also at Monday night’s meeting, Aldermen got an overview of the Main Street program from state officials. Livingston is in the middle of the application to become a Main Street community. Aldermen also approved the purchase of a new mower.
