Livingston PD Getting Patrol Vehicles, Paving And OT Pay Through Grant

Livingston has been awarded a $329,000 state grant that will bring several additions to the police department.

UCDD Deputy Director Tommy Lee said the money will be used for eight used patrol vehicles, paving of the parking lot and overtime pay for officers.

“In late December, the Tennessee Department of Health announced the confinement facilities grant, and the purpose of this grant is to make upgrades and improvements to jails, prisons and police stations,” Lee said.

Lee said the grant comes at no cost to the city with a match not required. The grant funding will also be used to for a security drop box and plexiglass partitioning at the police station.

Lee announced the grant during Monday’s Board of Aldermen meeting. Alderman Kelly Coleman asked Lee for a copy of the application to review the funding.

“Can you please submit to me a copy of the application and what the details are and what it includes,” Coleman said. “I’m supporting it. This is the first time I’ve heard of it, so i just want to see what we’re getting from it.”

Mayor Curtis Hayes said the application was submitted without board discretion due to the quick turnaround. Also, the application was at no cost of the city, Hayes said.
