Fourteen people have been selected to form Livingston-Overton County’s Young Professionals Chamber Board of Directors.
Chamber of Commerce Director Shannon Cantrell said the idea was to incorporate the next generation into the decision making process. Cantrell said Young Professionals Chamber will nominate its own Chairman and Vice-Chairman.
“Those two out of that group will actually hold a seat on our board of directors here at the chamber of commerce,” Cantrell said. “So that their views and their ideas are brought to the table.”
Cantrell said this a full on effort to make Livingston and Overton County a more attractive place to work and live for young people. Cantrell said the Young Professionals Board will make its selection during a July meeting so they can be involved at the start of the fiscal year.
“They will be the next generation coming up to take our current board seats eventually,” Cantrell said. “So it was important for us to develop a program that would allow them about the community development process. We wanted them to have a seat at the table. We felt like their opinions and talents that they have are important to our community and the success of our community.”
Cantrell said the members are under the age of 40 but an age range was not set on purpose. She said the Young Professionals Board will also recruit candidates at the high school level to be another outlet for ideas to make the community an attractive place to live and work.
