The Livingston-Overton County Airport is looking for a new client to be an economic driver in the community.
Airport Committee Chair Jason Duke said that the formerly known Fitzgerald Hangar is now unoccupied. Duke said that the top priority during his client pursuit is a maintenance or avionics facility to boost the local tax base and fuel sales.
“My long-term plan for the airport is we have some additional land along Airport Road and Bill White Lane that is suitable for commercial development,” Duke said. “To allow us to have hangars that could bring in commercial aircraft and commercial aircraft maintenance, like for example, avionics especially.”
Duke said this kind of revenue would help maintain the airport, making it more self-sufficient. Duke said he wants to take his time recruiting and advertising for a client. However, the goal is to find someone to move into the hangar in the next 30-60 days.
“We’re next going to reach out to the different life flight operations that work in the area and see if one would be interested in basing out of there,” Duke said. “Then if we still do not find a client, we’ll then look for a business or client with at least 2-3 commercial to base in the facility.”
Duke said that it does not make sense to find a short-term lease client while the hangar is unoccupied. He said during this time it can be used for transient aircraft or small regional jets.
