Livingston Makes Next Round In $500 K Grant Application

Livingston is one step closer to a $500,000 grant to continue work on the downtown area.

UCDD applied for an Appalachian Regional Commission Grant on behalf of the city in December. Deputy Director Tommy Lee said the commission has now asked for a full application.

“Don’t want to celebrate just yet, because it has not been awarded,” Lee said. “Typically when ARC comes back and asks for you to submit a full application, it is a done deal at that point.”

Lee said the project would focus on South Church Street. Lee said the grant funding would be used for new sidewalks and general improvement of the area. Mayor Curtis Hayes said the work will continue the city’s efforts of improving the downtown area.

“The idea is to make South Church, South Spring,” Hayes said. “All those looking as our downtown square is and try to make it as attractive as possible.”

Lee said the total project is estimated to cost $1 million. Lee said the grant application will be submitted this week.

“I would anticipate maybe this time next year we would be breaking ground,” Lee said.
