Livingston residents may notice some gushing water from fire hydrants in the city limits this week.
Fire Chief Rocky Dial said the department has started a month-long flow testing to gauge gallons available.
“Our insurance office rating, they want us to flow test all the hydrants, a certain percentage of them every three-five years,” Dial said. “This just happened to be the year to flow test them. We’ve had several new hydrants installed, so we thought we would flow test all the hydrants in the city limits.”
Dial said after testing, the hydrants will then be repainted to identify the flow. Dial said colors will range from red, orange, yellow, green or blue with pressure increasing in that order.
Dial said the city has over 300 hydrants to test. Dial said his department uses a flow testing gauge that will give a reading on three different pressures. The numbers are then used in a formula to determine the color painted.
