Livingston Exploring Next Steps After Learning Salary Study Results

City of Livingston will consider how to implement changes to employee salaries after a recent study revealed a need for increases.

Mayor Curtis Hayes said an independent study indicated Livingston’s salary should increase by some four percent to make it more competitive. Hayes said he and the Board of Aldermen are also exploring a salary step increase.

“At the end of the day when the rubber meets the road they are the backbone of the city of Livingston and just do an outstanding job,” Hayes said. “We’ve got a good team here and we want to make sure we keep them here and pay them accordingly.”

Hayes said the City has had an outdated pay scale for some time. He said the Board decided it was finally time to make adjustments, especially in light of increased costs.

Hayes said it is currently budget season. He said that means he will be plugging in the numbers as recommended by the study to see what can work with the city’s financials.

“Those are the folks that we need to try and take care of and the folks that help in the day-to-day operations in the City of Livingston,” Hayes said. “We’ve always got to be prepared when someone retires or someone quits that fill that void. We thought it was important for us to get a pay scale so you can get a qualified person in day one.”
