Livingston Church Giving Out Thanksgiving Meals

Livingston Church of Christ will be giving away Thanksgiving meals to those in need Saturday morning.

Church Member Josh Cannon said anyone can drive up to the church, say how many items they need, and the church will provide them with food. Cannon said the food includes turkeys and various homemade sides such as gravy, beans, and corn bread.

“If just by handing out a meal on this day helps bless someone then we’ve definitely done something great,” Cannon said. “And it’s even greater if the recognition, of course our whole goal is to give all the glory to God in this. This is not us. The things that we’re providing, it’s not even from us, it’s all things that God’s blessed us with.”

Cannon said he hopes to reach those who are struggling or lonely around the holidays and share the gospel message with them. Cannon said the church will start giving meals away at 11:00am and go until there is no more food to share.

“We do recommend probably getting there a little bit earlier as we do expect people to get there and go ahead and start forming a line,” Cannon said.

Cannon said this is something the church is not only called to do, but wants to do as a member of the community. Cannon said it is held the Saturday before Thanksgiving because it allows the most people to come together and serve.

“We’ve even sort of thrown around the idea of maybe even on another day doing it on a Sunday,” Cannon said. “To where whenever people are already coming for worship maybe we can have it as a bigger meal. So there’s plans to potentially do something bigger with it in the future.”

Cannon said he hopes people understand that these meals are ultimately being given by Jesus, not the church. Cannon said the church aims to use this event to show others the hope of Christ, even in their current struggles.

“They are loved by Him and this isn’t the only thing that He’s done for them,” Cannon said. “He’s come to this earth and given a lot more. At the end of the day we want to point people towards Him and let them know that by putting their faith in Christ gets them eternal life.”
