Livingston American Legion Hosting Flag Retirements On 9/11

The Livingston American Legion Post 4 & Auxiliary Unit 4 will host a flag retirement this Sunday in honor of 9/11.

Post Commander Norm Osburn said they will be stationed at the Overton County Courthouse to properly burn tattered flags.

“9/11 it is a good time for us to do it,” Osburn said. “It is a patriotic day. Usually we do the flag retirement on Flag Day but we get so many so this year we decided to do it twice.”

Osburn said flags will be arranged on a table prior to retirement. Osburn said local boy scouts will carry the flag to an American Legion member that would burn the flag in a barrel and give a final salute.

Osburn said the event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Osburn said the public is welcome to bring a flag to retire. Osburn said those that also want to burn a flag in memory of a loved one can do that as well.
