Livingston Academy Getting Nine Outdated HVAC Units Replaced

Nine HVAC units at Livingston Academy set to be replaced within the next few weeks.

Overton County Schools Maintenance Supervisor Steve Mosley said the units were over 20 years old. He said they were at the point where they were under constant repair.

“Long story short, we were putting more money in those units than what we needed to,” Mosley said. “Units are 22 years old and just ready to be replaced. It just made more sense to replace the units than pour more money into the older units.”

Mosley said once these units were replaced, all the units at Livingston Academy will have been replaced within the last few years.

The project was out for bid for two weeks before Lee Company awarded the job. Mosley said Lee Company already has the units. Mosley said he expects the job will be completed within the next few weeks.

“They said they weren’t going to have any trouble getting those units,” Mosley said. “Weather permitting, I’m expecting those units to be installed and done before February’s up. Nine units is not that big of a job for a company such as that. They should be able to knock that out fairly quickly.”

The nine units being replaced including installation will total some $70,000. Mosley said the nine units being replaced had multiple issues.

“Different failures just like any other heating and cooling systems,” Mosley said. “Your normal wear and tear stuff that a 22-year-old unit would have on them. Those are actually the oldest units on the building.”

Mosley said there are “multiple and multiple” HVAC units at Livingston Academy. He said it takes many units to heat and cool a building that large.
