Linden Trees Replaced Along Crossville’s Main Street

Crossville has replaced the Linden trees that were removed along Main Street last month.

The city has replaced the trees with four different tree species, including, Black Gum, Skyline Honey Locust, Autumn Gold Ginkgo, and Valley Forge American Elm.

“I wanted to have a nice diversity of species along Main Street that all have different colors in the fall, but also different looks during the spring and summer months as well,” Crossville Urban Forester Seth Harrison said.

Harrison said he had to remove the 45-year-old Linden trees because they began to fail and were close to dying. In addition, they caused a potential safety issue for walkers along Main Street, he said.

The new trees are currently about six to eight feet tall, but Harrison said they have the potential to reach a maximum height of 50-feet, depending on health and site conditions.

“A tree in urban environment isn’t the same as a tree in a native environment,” Harrison said. “They don’t really reach their full potential because of the constraints they are under.”
