Lightning Strikes Cookeville Business Thursday

Apparent lightning struck a Cookeville business Thursday afternoon as storms rolled through the Upper Cumberland.

Witnesses said a large lightning bolt struck the Identity Group building located at Gould Drive in southwest Cookeville.

One man walking in the parking lot was knocked briefly unconscious by the lightning strike. He was not seriously injured.

Cookeville Fire Chief Daryl Blair said the company lost phone service Thursday afternoon, but suffered no other apparent damages.

A witness said she was surprised no car windows were blown out because of the unbelievable sound of the strike.
