As many as 85 seniors a day across the Upper Cumberland are receiving groceries and food for free through Life Church.
Senior Pastor Bobby Davis said that the service began as a way to protect those most vulnerable.
The most difficult part of this service, Davis said, has been finding the groceries to distribute, even traveling out-of-town to purchase goods for distribution.
The deliveries spread out all across the Upper Cumberland. “They’re not just all centrally located,” Davis said, “So we may be in a different county, and we’ve got two other campuses that help us do this, so we’ve got a campus in Overton County and a campus in White County, and so they help deliver food there in those counties.”
At times the demand has overwhelmed the supply. Any donations of food items can be made by contacting the church. Davis said it’s been a humbling experience to be part of a congregation that lives and acts out their faith in the communities they serve.
“Just to see their faces,” Davis said, “Many of them just started weeping the moment we got there, so it’s really been a blessing to us. We’ve been blessed as much as the people receiving it to be honest with you.”
