LBJ & C Head Start is accepting applications for all 21 locations across 12 counties.
Director Penny Meadows said children that are between the ages three to five by August 15th are eligible.
“We don’t just do child development,” Meadows said. “We also provide services as nutrition, health screenings, dental, disability services. We look at the children’s outcomes and teach them the things they need to know before they go to school.”
Meadows said each applicant must provide a birth certificate and proof of income. Meadows said all services are free if the family is under the poverty the line.
“We take the neediest of the neediest children first and that is on a pointing basis,” Meadows said. “So, depending on the different things that is going on in their lives, you get points for different things. We definitely give extra points if the child has some sort of disability that they are needing.”
Meadows said the head start is looking forward to a traditional year. Meadows said each child will have schedule tailor made with goals that were set by the staff and family.
“We believe that if you improve the lives of the whole family not just the children, then you’re going to make a vast difference in their lives, and hopefully they can grow from that,” Meadows said.
Meadows said families can list their top three locations on the application. The paper work can be found at lbjc.org.
