LA Marching Band Needs Equipment Repairs, Uniform Funding

The Livingston Academy “Spirit of the Wildcats” Marching Band is still in dire need of funding.

Band Booster President Jenny Story said they tried to hold a fundraiser in December but had to cancel due to COVID. Story said the band needs $8,000-$9,000 for instrument repairs alone, and additional money to counter uniform costs.

“A lot of them are very proud of what they can accomplish and what they can do,” Story said. “Putting on those uniforms gives them a sense of pride and gives them a sense of belonging and it gives them something to do. Some of them it may be the only way that they can even get into college is through a scholarship.”

Story said that band members and parents will be unloading metal recyclables in a drive-thru on Main Street in Livingston. Story said that Cooper Recycling has donated the collection bin and lot beside Hardee’s for this event.

“Anything from an aluminum can to freezers, dryers, washers, refrigerators, washing machines, anything like that,” Story said. “Any scrap metal, any copper, anything that we can take the recycling bin, even hospital beds, we can even do that.”

Story said that people can even have their large recyclables picked up at their home. Story said the hope is that with more people getting vaccinated, this event can happen and bring a good turnout for the kids.

“We have got to get something going, so we’re trying our best and we’re doing two days,” Story said. “With it being spring cleaning, a lot of people are out in their yard or going through their barns or anything of that nature. Any old farm equipment or anything like that, we can take that as well but we’re just hoping that people will get out.”

The fundraisers are scheduled for March 27 and April 24, from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM. If loading or delivery assistance is needed, contact John McMillen at 931-252-6479.
