Jerry Boyd Named UC Superintendent Of The Year

Jerry Boyd has received the Upper Cumberland Superintendent of the Year award.

Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents (TOSS) presented Boyd with the award during a Putnam County School Board meeting last week.

“Jerry truly is a very humble and intelligent person,” TOSS Executive Director Dr. Dale Lynch said. “I will tell you, as someone who works very closely with over 140 superintendents, hang on to him tight. He’s a leader among leaders.”

Boyd said it’s an honor to receive the award for the first time in his eight year tenure as superintendent.

“The nomination came from my peers in the Upper Cumberland Region, so that in itself is quite an honor,” Boyd said. “I’ll do my best to represent Putnam County and the Upper Cumberland in the next process.”

Putnam County School Board member Lynn McHenry said it’s no surprise that Boyd received the award.

“We know that Mr. Boyd is such a great asset to our school system,” McHenry said. “We plan on keeping him close and we appreciate him very much.”

Boyd becomes one of eight finalists for the Tennessee Superintendent of the Year award. The winner will be announced in September during a TOSS awards banquet in Gatlinburg.
