Work on the Jefferson Avenue widening project in Cookeville will continue through the cold season.
That is according to TDOT Community Relations Officer Rae-Anne Bradley. Bradley said utility relocation and grading for the new roadways will be the majority of work.
“This project is a little bit behind schedule due to material shortages,” Bradley said. “Those materials have been delivered, and the current expected completion date is now late spring of 2025.”
The 2.2 mile project will widen Jefferson Avenue from Highway 111 to the south of the I-40 interchange. The project will create a total of five lanes, adding two lanes in each direction, with a continuous center lane.
Bradley said weather will determine the extent of work during the winter. Bradley said the original proposed completion date was September of 2024.
