The Jamestown Methodist Church will be serving and delivering free meals to those in need on Thanksgiving.
Volunteer Joshua Gorecki said anyone can call the church and share their information and the church will deliver as many meals as that household needs. Gorecki said people can also pick up meals from the church or dine in for a buffet-style meal.
“I’ve talked to a lot of people over the phone over the last week and it’s amazing, the suffering and difficulties that the people of Jamestown have suffered and are suffering with every day,” Gorecki said. “And it’s a wonderful thing to be able to help out in just even this one little thing we do.”
Gorecki said the church loves to bless the community that has done so much to support it over the years. Gorecki said anyone who wants to request a meal should do so by Wednesday so the church can focus on making deliveries on the holiday.
“I believe we’re starting about 9:00am, 9:30am on Thanksgiving Day,” Gorecki said. “They could come by and pick up their food or eat here buffet kind of style.”
Gorecki said many people from other churches in the town come to support the event. Gorecki said it is a wonderful experience as everyone gets to enjoy Christian fellowship and do a good deed at the same time.
“We have people coming and going all-day here and there every day to do little things,” Gorecki said. “Like we’re going to be boning chickens and slicing pies and naturally the day of we’ll be distributing and packing the individual meals hot and in their packages so that they can be delivered.”
Gorecki said the church has been doing this event for about twenty years and usually serves four to five hundred meals.
“Last year, in 2023, we exceeded all expectations and served over six hundred and fifty meals and ran out of all our food,” Gorecki said.
