Jamestown Facade Grant in Use, Streetlights on Hold

Jamestown’s over $100,000 facade grant is being put to use, but COVID has put a pause on the downtown street improvements.

Jamestown Mayor Lyndon Baines said four or five businesses have begun improvements to their store fronts. Baines said he expects the storefront renovations to wrap up by the end of November.

“A lot of them wanted new awnings put over because some of the awnings had been there as long as I’ve been around, probably since the 60’s and they wanted to be fixed up and stuff,” Baines said. “They’ve got new awnings already being seen, the flower boxes out front, the store fronts out front are looking great.”

As for the second grant funded project, Baines said the state told him he should hear back no later than the end of October. That project is to replace traffic lights downtown, but an infrastructure study needs to take place first.

“They told me because of the virus a lot of people are working at home,” Baines said. “Not being able to get things done on time, and I understand that.”

Jamestown received the Transportation Planning Grant in May of 2020. The grant is for $125,000 through TDOT.

The grant for storefront improvements come from the Economic and Community Development Facade Grant.
