Jamestown’s upcoming budget is a return to normalcy for the town’s operations going into the fiscal year.
Chief Financial Officer Gail Dishmon said they are projecting an $8.26 million dollar budget, that is lower than last year’s that included a $6.2 million FAA grant towards the airport. Dishmon said this year will focus on infrastructure.
“We budgeted $50,000 to start trying to work on our sidewalks and do some patching,” Dishmon said. “We’re working on the infrastructure. We’re trying to work on a grant for the roads.”
Dishmon said that Main Street will be the target for improvements. Dishmon said that no major budget cuts were required, allowing for money to be put towards projects. She said the certified tax rate will remain the same at $0.72 per hundred of assessed value.
“The road project (Highway 127) that the state’s doing, we did budget for that,” Dishmon said. “to upgrade from the 4 inch to an 8 inch while they have that open. Which was not much, I think it was around $100,000 that we had to budget for.”
Dishmon said there are not any expected changes in revenue compared to the last budget. However, she said there are position vacancies that are able to be filled.
“There were two spots at the water plant that the board filled,” Dishmon said. “Then we will take applications for a police officer position that we have open.”
Dishmon said there is roughly $300,000 being put towards the airport for continued improvements. Dishmon said the roadway grant has not been budgeted, because the town cannot say if and when the grant will come through.
