Jamestown city employees will have discounted access to helicopter transport during medical emergencies.
A membership with the AirMedCare Network was approved by the board of aldermen on Monday night. Chief Financial Officer Gail Dishmon said the need was evident since the closure of the Jamestown hospital.
“If you’re in a bad car wreck, it’s by ambulance. It would be by helicopter too, don’t get me wrong,” Dishmon said. “But this helps the employees so they don’t have to have that other half of that big payment to be flown out of here if something bad happened.”
Dishmon said the membership program has been approved by the county, and was then brought to Jamestown for consideration. Jamestown approved an annual membership rate of $65 for employees and their household.
According to the AirMedcareNetwork this guarantees non out-of-pocket cost if transported by helicopter. According to the terms and conditions, city employees will be transported to the closest medical facility for conditions that can be life or limb threatening, or could lead to permanent disability.
