Jackson To Reopen Courthouse

The Jackson County Courthouse will reopen to the public with official business on May 4.

“We’re going do it kind of strategically, not get in a hurry, and do the right thing,” Jackson County Mayor Randy Heady said. “That day we’re going to open it up and let people come in and do their business.”

Heady said that congregating will not be allowed at the courthouse once the facility reopens.

“We always have people come in and sit at the courthouse and talk to people as they come by,” Heady said. “That’s what we’re not going to be allowing to happen in the next few weeks. It’s going to be official business only. We’re only going to open up two doors, and we’re going to encourage and not come in and not do what would be considered loitering.”

Restoring a sense of normalcy is something Heady said he feels is important to Jackson County.

“Every time we talk to people here in the county we always have the same attitude,” Heady said. “People never thought they would see the day that the courthouse would be closed down to the public. That’s true, and I think it’s time we get the courthouse back open to the public. Maybe that will relieve some of the fear and anxiety that is going on in the community.”
