Jackson St. Convenience Center To Open In Roughly Three Months

The  Jackson Street Convenience Center is estimated to open in roughly two to three months.

According to Putnam County Solid Waste Director Doug Ashburn, the work is close to completion.

“Well we’re probably like another six weeks on finishing the building, pouring the pads, and then the paving will begin” Ashburn said. “And I’m assuming it’ll take a week, week and a half for it.”

Ashburn said the main difference in the new center is that it won’t feature roll-off cans. This means residents will not be able to drop off large household items such as mattresses, furniture and other big-sized items.

However, Ashburn said residents can still bring items like cardboard and bagged household garbage. The new convenience center will also be near the Hazardous Waste Center. Ashburn said residents can drop off household cleaning products, gasoline, and oil-based paint to prevent water contamination.

Ashburn said latex paint can be dealt with in the home.

“Latex can be dried up with kitty litter or they make a material at Lowe’s that you can pour in the cans,” Ashburn said. “Once it is solidified then it can be put into your regular trash.”
