Jackson Schools Approve Bids For Roof Projects

Jackson County School Board approved a $1.7 million bid for roof upgrades at Dodson Branch and Gainesboro Elementary Schools.

Director of Schools Kristy Brown said they’ve worked diligently to find cost savings. After exploring saving avenues, she said they saved about $16,000 of work at Dodson Branch. However, she said they found an additional $165,000 of work at Gainesboro Elementary.

“We feel like we’ve exhausted options of what we can do out there to be a good project and take care of that building like it needs to be,” Brown said. “And felt like it’s what needs to be done.”

Brown said they expect materials to come in on March 1st with both projects project to be completely finished no later than September 20th. She said crews plan to start with Dodson Branch School because it is a smaller project.

Maintenance Supervisor Josh Morgan said crews will also work to reseal the buildings. He said that includes pressure washing the windows and replacing old caulk with brand-new sealant.

“And that’s another plus,” Morgan said. “The added insulation will help save money on the electric bill.”

The project will be funded completely through ESSER grant funding, with no cost coming from the school’s budget or taxes.
